Romania aims to install 2,500 MW of new capacity in the energy system by 2025

Romania's energy objectives for 2025

The Ministry of Energy aims to add 2,500 MW of new energy capacity to the national grid by 2025, through projects such as Iernut, Mintia, Răstolița, and Năvodari, as well as private initiatives funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

These projects include the completion of the Iernut power plant (430 MW), the commissioning of the Răstolița hydropower plant (30 MW) and the Năvodari power plant (80 MW), as well as the addition of 1,200-1,500 MW from renewable sources.

Additionally, the connection of the first 1,000 MW from the Mintia coal power plant (with a total capacity of 1,750 MW) to the grid is expected, along with a doubling of battery storage capacity to 400-500 MWh.

The investments aim to ensure safe, affordable, and clean energy, contributing to Romania's energy independence and reducing bills by increasing production capacity, rather than relying on constant state interventions in the market.
