Today, June 16, 2025, Romania marked a historic milestone in the energy sector: it recorded the highest solar energy production of all time – 1.866 MW at 12:33 PM. For a few hours, the sun became the country’s main source of energy, even surpassing hydropower plants.
Moreover, during that time interval, nearly 75% of the energy produced at the national level came from zero-emission sources – solar, hydro, and wind. Romania not only covered its internal consumption but was also a net exporter of energy.
The total capacity of dispatchable photovoltaic parks has reached nearly 2.500 MWwhile prosumers – citizens or companies who both produce and consume energy – contributed significantly, reaching a peak of over 1.600 MW.
This record is not just a technical achievement but also a clear signal that the transition to green energy is gaining momentum in Romania. The sun not only warms us but also powers the future.
