Eurowind commissions a 120 MWh energy storage system in Teiuș

A new energy storage project strengthens Romania’s energy infrastructure

Eurowind Energy has completed and commissioned a new battery energy storage system (BESS), with a total capacity of 120 MWhlocated in Teiuș, Alba County.

The energy storage system is integrated with the Teiuș photovoltaic park, which has a capacity of approximately 60 MWand is designed to improve the efficiency of using energy generated from renewable sources. Energy produced during periods of high generation can be stored and later supplied to the grid when demand is higher or when photovoltaic output decreases.

By implementing such a solution, the project contributes to improved grid balancing and greater flexibility of the energy system. Energy storage capacities are becoming increasingly important as photovoltaic and wind projects continue to expand, as they enable more efficient management of the variable nature of renewable energy generation.

The investment in the energy storage system amounts to approximately €21 million, with the project also benefiting from funding through Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The commissioning of this capacity marks another important step in the development of Romania’s energy storage sector.

The growing number of BESS projects reflects the direction in which the local energy market is evolving, as the integration of increasing volumes of renewable energy requires additional solutions to ensure grid stability, flexibility, and efficiency.
