A new photovoltaic park has become operational in Romania. The Iancu Jianu project, developed by Econergy in Olt County, has a capacity of 59 MW and was recently connected to the electricity grid.
The power plant has already started supplying electricity, becoming Econergy’s fifth photovoltaic project connected to the Romanian grid.
The project goes beyond solar power generation. A 35 MW battery energy storage system with a capacity of 70 MWh is currently under construction and is scheduled to be connected to the grid in 2027.
The battery will allow energy produced during the day, when solar generation is high, to be stored and used later. At the same time, the system can help balance the grid and maximize the value of the energy during periods of higher demand.
Projects like this are becoming increasingly important for Romania’s energy market. As the number of photovoltaic plants continues to grow, energy storage capacity can help manage generated electricity more efficiently and reduce the gap between energy production and consumption.
For Econergy, Iancu Jianu marks another step in the development of its local portfolio, with the company continuing to develop several renewable energy and energy storage projects.
In short, Romania is adding another 59 MW of solar power to the grid, while the future 70 MWh battery will provide the project with significantly greater flexibility.
