Electrica and Romgaz enter into agreement to construct 400 MW of greenfield renewable energy projects

Electrica and Romgaz Team Up to Drive the Green Transition

On September 9, 2025, Electrica and Romgaz signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop greenfield renewable energy generation and storage capacities, with a total installed capacity of up to 400 MW. Electrica will serve as the lead developer, while Romgaz will participate as a strategic minority partner.

The partnership is part of the “Electrica 2030” strategy and follows other significant achievements: the issuance of €500 million in green bonds and the securing of €200 million in financing from the European Investment Bank.

Electrica brings extensive experience in photovoltaic projects — it has a portfolio of approximately 300 MWp, of which 46.5 MWp are already operational in 2025, and it has set ambitious targets: 1 GW of generation and 900 MWh of storage by 2030.

Romgaz states that this memorandum represents an important step in its strategy for diversification and energy transition, contributing to Romania’s energy security.

The actual implementation of the collaboration is, however, subject to due diligence and the necessary corporate approvals.
